If you are not a natural-born morning person, getting your day started can be a real chore. Even morning people have off days and may take some time to get going. Here are some tips to help you make your mornings more efficient and help you get moving a lot faster for a more productive day.
Yeah, that sounds like a nightmare for some people. But, the more you hit snooze, the more groggy you will be. That constant sleep interruption is not a good thing for your brain or your body. Set your alarm for when you need to get up and then get up. I know that’s easier said than done, but trust me, it will help you.
2. Get some natural light as soon as possible.
Sometimes we have to get up before the sunrise. But, if the sun is coming up when you get up, then make sure you open your blinds and curtains immediately so that you can see it. Natural light helps your body know that it’s time to get up. If you are up too early for natural light, then turn on as many lamps and lights as you can in your home.
3. Drink some water first.
Before you reach for the coffee, drink a large glass of water. Our bodies are often a bit dehydrated when we first get up. Drinking water helps hydrate you, which helps increase your energy levels. Hold off on the coffee until a little later in the morning when it is more effective.
4. Take a cold shower.
Ok, this seems like torture, but if you step into some cold water for a couple of minutes before you turn up the heat, you will be invigorated like you wouldn’t even believe. If a cold shower is too much to take, then splash some cold water on your face.
5. Plan your outfit the night before.
Trying to find the right thing to wear when we are in a hurry and tired, is not a good way to start your day. Plan your clothing the night before and lay it out and make sure it’s not wrinkled or stained. Just taking this one thing off your plate in the morning can have a huge impact.
6. Do some simple stretches and deep breathing.
Stretching gets your muscles warmed up and your blood moving. Just a few simple stretches along with some deep breaths will help get your body oxygenated and ready to move.
7. Avoid your phone.
It’s so tempting to check email or look at other things on our phones in the morning, but hold off as long as you can. Getting pulled into work stuff or other drama can put you in a foul mood before you even have a chance to get going for the day.
Having a stress-free morning can make your entire day go better. It’s important that we change our morning routines and implement at least some of these tips so that we can wake up with more energy and get on with our day without unnecessary stress.
